Here are some new pictures. Things are busy at the school....Heath continues to make books daily (while watching Eden). Seth has made a new friend at school...the first boy friend - Esmeli! Diane has been working with the teachers who have been so receptive to the curriculum changes. We will be having a school wide book fair in about 3 weeks - yep, with books!

Heath and I got to have a night out without kids for the first time in Guatemala! Our dear friends Anjuli (school English teacher) and Karina (school principal) watched the kids while we went out for dinner and coffee. What a treat!

Julianna (Global Shore director) and her husband Jacobo (Pastor) took us with their family out for breakfast in a town called Tecpan. The kids got to play on swings and grass and then took a horse (or what we think is a donkey) ride! It was the first day that we all got a little too much sun...not really a burn, but a lot of sun.

Our host mom, Clara, had a terrible fall in the market last week. She landed on both her arms and is still unable to lift a cup of coffee with either hand. Thankfully her arms are not broken, but she's been on rest since then. So, I've had the opportunity to do some cooking and cleaning....and learning how to do so Guatemala style! Please pray for Clara's recovery soon (and that I don't burn down the house in the meantime!).

Things are going great. God is showing us more and more about the excessiveness of our culture. Seth has learned to eat EVERYTHING given to him as we do not want to waste food or any provisions given to us. I think about how much food we throw away in Canada and how many kids our waste would feed. There are kids at the school who only eat the soup that is provided daily....that means they eat 1 meal every 24 hours. My cupboards are so full at home that they barely close. Once again, we are learning perspective.

Hope you enjoyed the pictures! Eden and Seth are both getting VERY big!

  2. Diane and Heath,

Thanks for all the pictures and posts! It is wonderful to see and hear what you all have been up to. I'm thrilled that the reading program is a hit at your school. As well, it certainly looks like Seth is fitting right in and that Eden is happy and healthy (even with her big toe obsession).

About the excessiveness of our culture...ouch...my cupboards are full and the greatest challenge I face is to decide whether I want to actually cook something this afternoon or go the pick up route...sigh...we are so fortunate and yet so grossly spoiled.

As I look at your pictures etc., I'm afraid you're going to have such a good time that you'll choose not to come home. However, I do know your feet will be hitting Canadian soil at the end of March and we're looking forward to your company at that time. Love you all and say hi to your gang. We love you and wish you God's continued blessing as you serve Him and others.
